Easy Tasty Aloo Paratha
Easy Tasty Aloo Paratha
What is Aloo Paratha?
Aloo Paratha is one of the most loved Indian comfort foods — a soft, golden flatbread filled (or in this case, blended) with spiced mashed potato. Traditionally served hot with yogurt, pickle, or butter, it’s hearty, flavorful, and surprisingly simple to make. Instead of stuffing, this version mixes the potato straight into the dough, making it even quicker and easier.
Ingredients (makes 4–5 parathas):
2 medium potatoes (boiled, peeled, mashed)
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour (plus extra for rolling)
1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
½ tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
½ tsp garam masala (or chili powder for heat)
½ tsp turmeric
½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
1–2 tbsp oil or ghee for dough
Oil/ghee for cooking
Method:
Make the dough: Combine mashed potatoes, flour, spices, coriander, and oil in a bowl. Mix into a soft dough. Adjust with flour if sticky or a splash of water if dry.
Rest: Cover and rest for 10 minutes.
Roll: Divide into 4–5 balls. Roll each one on a floured surface into a medium round.
Cook: Heat a pan/tava, place paratha on it, cook until bubbles appear. Flip, brush with oil/ghee, and cook both sides until golden with brown spots.
Serve: Hot with yogurt, pickle, or even just a dollop of butter.
